Emma's Story

Emma Blancsube joined the ecosystem through the Author × AI MMXXVI cohort in Mexico City. She is exploring how post-conflict justice systems can be redesigned to take individual victims' lived experience seriously, rather than defaulting to top-down international frameworks that often fail in practice. Drawing on cases from the Nanking massacres, the Algerian war of independence, and Rwanda's community-led gacaca tribunals, her project asks what a more regional and human-scaled model of post-conflict reconciliation could look like, and how education, collective memory, and official acknowledgment hold it together. Her long-term ambition is to contribute to humanitarian-system reform at the level of the UN.

“My idea is to reform a model of justice that already exists so it can be implemented more regionally — one that takes into account what people have actually lived through and the impact it has on them, rather than something so global.”

Emma Blancsube · Project Author

“I wanted to address the failure of post-conflict management. After humanitarian conflicts, very global norms are put in place, but at the individual level they do not truly help the victims. In theory it sounds beautiful, but in practice it is not nearly as effective.”

Emma Blancsube · Project Author

“I want to feel proud and satisfied with what I have done, and to have had an impact greater than just on the people around me. I want to have attempted every project I set out to pursue, without fear of failure.”
