Karen Gaytán es una cineasta documental ganadora del Emmy cuya cámara captura las historias que las instituciones olvidan contar. Nacida en Matamoros, Tamaulipas, y criada en Laredo, Texas, lleva la frontera entre Estados Unidos y México en su trabajo, moviéndose entre el rigor del documental independiente y la belleza cinematográfica para hacer visible lo invisible. Sus créditos van desde National Geographic hasta Netflix, y cofundó la Laredo Film Society para construir infraestructura narrativa en el sur de Texas.
Gaytán sees cinema as a tool of institutional memory and public accountability. Her work does not merely document — it testifies. She believes that communities need not only their stories told, but the infrastructure to tell them. The Laredo Film Society is her answer to that conviction.
