G20 Buenos Aires — Sidelines of the First South American Summit

When the G20 came to Buenos Aires on November 30 and December 1, 2018 — the first time the world's premier forum for international economic cooperation had ever convened in South America — BeNeXT was there. The summit, chaired by Argentine President Mauricio Macri, brought twenty member nations and seven guest invitees together around the future of work, infrastructure for development, and a sustainable food future. Inside that cycle, on the sidelines where the institutional grammar of the next global era actually gets written, BeNeXT placed Futuro project authors and their Legacy Projects in front of the conversations that shape policy at hemispheric scale.

What Happened

BeNeXT participated in the G20 Buenos Aires cycle as a sideline presence — convening project authors and their Legacy Projects in the institutional surround of the summit. A formal declaration on the future of education was advanced from the sidelines: that the global model of education is not failing because it lacks innovation, but because it was designed to sustain institutions rather than develop people. The address called for reconstruction around three commitments — rigor that honors lived experience, lifelong learning that extends beyond the credential, and impact measured by the transformation of communities and nations. This sideline declaration was recorded and is now archived as 'Education Must Serve People, Not Systems.'

What It Produced

An on-the-record sideline declaration from the first South American G20. The institutional reference point that established BeNeXT's educational thesis articulated against the highest-level economic policy forum in the world. A foundational moment in the institutional life of BeNeXT — the cycle in which the hemispheric leadership thesis was first delivered to the same forum that shapes global economic policy.
